FAQ
How does your service work?
We start by gathering basic case information from you. We then utilize our extensive network of experts and resources to locate potential experts for your consideration. When we have located at least one, and hopefully more than one, potential expert for your consideration, we send you the expert’s CV and fee schedule for your review. If you are interested in speaking to the expert, we help to facilitate an initial telephone conference for you and the expert.
What if you do not have the type of expert for which I am looking in your database?
While our sizable database of experts is our first step in locating an expert for you, we can also perform a broader search for potential experts. Over the years, we have developed an extensive network of resources to help us with such a search.
What if I do not like the experts who you locate for me?
There is no obligation to retain any expert who we locate for you. Time permitting, we will search for additional experts for your consideration.
How long does a search take?
The amount of time needed for a search depends on the type of expert for which you are looking. If we have the type of expert for which you are looking in our database and that expert is available to meet your deadlines, the search could take less than one business day. However, if you need a unique type of expert and we do not have that type of expert in our database, the search will take more time. We always ask about upcoming deadlines and do our best to provide experts for your consideration well in advance of those deadlines. The sooner you call us to begin searching, the better.
What are the fees for your service?
There is no charge to our clients for any of our expert locator services. If you ultimately retain an expert who we have located for you, the expert pays us a percentage of his/her hourly rate in exchange for administrative support. The experts with whom we work are strongly discouraged from increasing their rates to cover Search4Experts’ percentage.
What type of administrative support do you provide to the experts with whom you work?
We take care of securing an Engagement Agreement at the outset of the retention and we handle all of the expert’s billing and collections. We also offer the expert optional document management, transcription, and scheduling services.
How is Search4Experts different from other expert witness firms?
The majority of expert witness firms charge their clients for their services – by either charging a flat search fee or marking up the experts’ hourly rates. Search4Experts does not charge our clients for our locator services. We are paid a percentage by the experts with whom we work in exchange for administrative support.
With what types of experts do you work?
Our current database of experts includes a comprehensive collection of medical and non-medical experts. The most commonly requested areas of expertise (for example, physical medicine & rehabilitation, orthopedic surgery, neuropsychology, accident reconstruction, and forensic accounting) are represented, as are some other, more obscure areas of expertise (such as koi fish and port-a-potties), and everything in between. Because we will search for any type of expert needed by a client, we have been able to build a vast network of individuals representing many different areas of expertise.
On what types of cases do you typically work?
We can locate experts for any type of case. The majority of the cases for which we are asked to locate experts are personal injury cases and medical negligence cases, for both plaintiff and defense attorneys. We have also worked on criminal cases, commercial litigation cases, and domestic and probate matters.
I am an expert, how can I be considered for cases?
We love to expand our network of experts and resources. If you are interested in being included in our database, please contact us so that we can learn about you and your expertise and explain what we need to add you to our database.
As an expert, how many cases can I expect to work on through your company?
It is difficult to say how frequently we will contact you about a case and on how many cases you will be retained to work. We will contact you for any case within your area of expertise. The ultimate decision about retention is completely at the control of the firm or company retaining the expert.
What do you charge experts to be listed with your company?
There is no fee to be included as an expert in our database. If you are retained to work on a Search4Experts’ associated case, you will pay Search4Experts a percentage of your hourly rate in exchange for administrative support throughout the case.
